Abstract
LAS-Na and ASME(or MES), surfactants, was evaluated for primary skin and eye irritation in male New Zealand White rabbits. Na significant difference was observed in body weights and clinical signs in each test. In the primary skin irritation test, 05§¢ of a solution of each material(1%) was applied to they back of rabbits for 24 hours. Primary Irritation Index-(P.I.I) was 4.04, 2.29 in groups treated with LAS-Na and ASME, respectively and their irritation rating was evaluated as moderately irritants.
In the primary eye irritation test, 0.1§¢ of a solution of each material(1%) was instilled into the eye. Eye irritation of each material (1%) was developed only at the conjuntivae. And their irritation rating was classified as minimally irritating material on the basis of the criterial of Draize. But A.O.I.(Acuted occular irritation index ; 8.67) of group treated with ASME was lower than that(11.67) of group treated with LAS-Na.
Therefore, ASME was verified as a milder surfactant than LAS-Na in the primary skin and eye irritation test.
